100 Years ago today. [Dec. 3rd, 2009|05:36 pm]
[music |The Ellan Vannin Tragedy - Hugh E Jones]

The Ellan Vannin Tragedy - Hugh E Jones (Source Hughie's Ditty Bag)

Snaefell, Tynwald and Ben-My-Chree,
Fourteen ships have sailed the sea.
Proudly bearing a Manx name,
But there's one will never again

Oh, Ellan Vannin, of the Isle of Man Company,
Oh, Ellan Vannin, lost in the Irish Sea.

At one a.m. in Ramsey Bay
Captain Teare was heard to say,
"Our contract said deliver the mail,
In this rough weather we must not fail."

Ocean liners sheltered from the storm,
Ellan Vannin on the wave was borne.
Her hold was full and battened down,
As she sailed toward far Liverpool town

With her crew of twenty one Manxmen,
Her passengers Liverpool business men.
Farewell to Mona's Isle, farewell,
This little ship was bound for hell.

Less than a mile from the Bar Lightship,
Ellan Vannin by a wave was hit.
She sank in the waters of Liverpool Bay
And there she lies until this day.

Few Manxmen now remember
The third day of the month December
That terrible storm of Nineteen-Nine,
Ellan Vannin sailed for the very last time.

"The Ellan Vannin was originally built as an iron paddle steamer and named Mona's Isle". Constructed in Scotland by Tod & MacGregor at Meadowside, Glasgow in 1860 at a cost of 10,673UK£. She had a gross tonnage on building of 339 tons, top speed of 12 knots and an overall length of 63.09metres. She was launched on 10 April 1860. In 1883 the Mona's Isle was converted to a twin screw steamer by Westray, Copeland and Co. of Barrow and renamed Ellan Vannin on 16 November 1883.

No One Piece today (Easter Holiday) - However there is Star Trek [Mar. 25th, 2009|07:18 am]
Hi all.

I'll be running a Star Trek game instead, set after all the series' and after all but two of the novels.

Today will be character gen, back-story and the lead up to the plot, with the main plot due next week. I'm off on the canal boat for a week, then I'll bring the mini-game to some sort of conclusion the week after.

Then it will be back to one piece with the new term starting at uni.

So, start thinking about a Federation Starship Engineer you'd like to play.

So I'll be at the party at Will's for new years.

Afterwards...

One Piece games starts again first Wednesday of term. I believe that is the 7th?

Edit - I believe wrongly, first Wed of term is the 14th. So Warewolf on 7th then One Piece the following week.

Your result for The Which Ancient Language Are You Test...

Older Futhark

You scored

Language of the Norse, Older Futhark! Thirty symbols, all told. And no hardier, more warrior-like tongue has ever graced the longships of the Viki or left the Celts and Saxons in such quivering fear. There's only one drawback, that being you died 800 years ago.

One Piece [Oct. 6th, 2008|10:39 pm]
[mood | devious]

The One Piece game will try to resume again on Wed 8th.

I am thinking of possibly making it every other week. Then people can go off and do other things and not have their characters phasing out of the story, or getting knocked unconscious for some flangey reason.

Much silliness should occur.....and we will be playing a fun game as well!

See you guys then.

Dance then where-ever you may be [Oct. 6th, 2008|10:32 pm]
[mood | energetic]

So, Thursday was Morris.

Friday was Warewolf - not dancing, but one of the characters is called "Waltzes to war"

Saturday night I went to Totness for a Ceilidh, Dartmoor Pixie Band were calling, and apart from starting and ending with Circassian Circle, the dances were complicated but flowed well and were fun. I was dancing with Sarah - who is also an experienced dancer, so we were able put in lots of flurishes and extra spins. :-D

Sunday was fresher's fair at the University. I was supporting Folk Soc. - very busy and loads of people.

Sunday night was an amazing session at the Fire House.

Monday night was a session in JCR, followed by dancing. Nice easy dancing, with lots of new faces, but even higher energy per dance. :-D

I will be glad of tomorrow's scheduled rest evening.

Windows XP failure [Sep. 7th, 2008|03:37 pm]
[mood | anxious]

Now getting blue screen of death on my other main PC. Can't seem to get it to boot or find my install CDs. Damn.

(C) Hard drive now scandisked and defragged. Backed up to new USB drive. Main storage disk also needed scandisk. Seemed to work.

New wireless link up and runnning on this PC so I can access the internet and post. No sound working as yet.

So, searching through more boxes to try and find that CD - or the other one from the PC before... probebly together!
